More than 70 study and benchmarking trips on sustainability across Europe, with some 1,300 experts taking part in total. Here are a few examples from recent years.

2026 Research and educational institution Project-linked study trip

Turun ammattikorkeakoulu

Innovative stormwater and greywater solutions and how they are implemented in Finland.

2025 Waste management company Project-linked study trip

Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto Oy

Reuse as a central part of the future economy and sustainable business. Sites included UpcycleCentrum Almere, Upcycle Mall Rotterdam, SCRAP, Buurman Rotterdam and BlueCity. Part of the "Ohituskaista uudelleenkäyttöön" project.

Trip details

Participants: the trip was organised by Southwest Finland Waste Management (LSJH) as part of the Ohituskaista uudelleenkäyttöön reuse project. Alongside LSJH and its project partner the Sustainable Development Association / Turku Ekotori, the group included people from Turku University of Applied Sciences' Baltic2Hand and Circular Tiedepuisto projects, the cities of Raisio and Turku, the Helsinki Region Reuse Centre and retail companies.

What united the participants was a wish to find ideas and inspiration for building reuse more firmly into their own organisations' projects and everyday work.

Sites: UpcycleCentrum Almere, De HER – Upcycle Mall Rotterdam, SCRAP, Buurman Rotterdam and BlueCity. What they had in common was the strong commitment of the people and companies running them to circular economy goals.

Getting to know companies and experts in the subsurface drainage field: drainage machine factories, research institutes, work sites and design-related locations.

Energy and recycling solutions for buildings: sorting on site, construction waste treatment technologies, a materials recycling plant, waste heat recovery, the "Eco-block", ESCO projects, and energy management and storage.

Participants: project leads and members together with invited organisations, among them Lassila & Tikanoja, VTT, Micropolis, Lapland UAS and OAMK. Twenty people in all.

Content: sorting and recycling on construction sites, construction waste treatment technologies, a building materials recycling plant, waste heat recovery and use, an ”eco-block” with its own power and heat generation and smart control, ESCO projects, and energy management and storage.

Background: the trip was planned jointly with the ERDF-funded Energiaratkaisut 2020 and Teolliset symbioosit Pohjois-Pohjanmaalla projects and Micropolis in Ii.
